Fun Activities To Enjoy With Your Grandkids
There is nothing quite like the bond between a grandchild and their grandparents.  The youth and wonder exuded by children bring joy and happiness to our older loved ones.  Sometimes it can be difficult to find activities for little ones to do with our older loved ones, so we’ve compiled a list of our favorite activities for grandparents and grandchildren to do together:
  • Go on a scavenger hunt or treasure hunt.  This is a great way to get kids off of the technology and outside and exploring nature.  If it’s too difficult to get outside, indoor scavenger hunts are always fun, too!  A scavenger hunt can take an average walk and make it a fun game and experience – consider making a list of things for your little ones to find, like a yellow flower, a feather, or a cloud shaped like an animal. If your grandkids are older you could write clues to find items or puzzles to solve to get a clue.
  • Wii games: Wii bowling is a great way for both grandparents and grandchildren to get some exercise and have some fun while doing it! Wii bowling is an opportunity for grandkids to teach their grandparents how to use technology they may not be familiar with and is a great way to bond.
  • Baking cookies.  In today’s fast-paced world with so much technology at our fingertips, passing down family recipes is becoming a lost tradition. Keeping those family recipes alive is important, and what better way than to share them with the youngsters in your family? Cooking is a wonderful way to teach children how to follow directions, how to use math while measuring, how to plan, and how to practice patience. Of course, it’s also a fun way to enjoy a tasty treat!
  • Look at old photos: Share your old photos with your little ones!  Talk about the fashions, the different trends of the era, and some of your favorite memories. This will open up a wonderful conversation, and help your little ones learn about what it was like growing up in a different era, as well as help seniors recall memories and stimulate their brains!
  • Keep it traditional: A trip to the local library is a fun way to spend an afternoon with your grandkids! Libraries often have many different activities and programs, so this is a great way for your grandkids to meet new friends.  Coloring is also a fun traditional activity, and a great way to practice hand-eye coordination – grab an adult coloring book for your older loved ones, and a regular coloring book for the children.
  • Feeling adventurous? Try some homemade science experiments! With a quick google search and some common household items, there are a number of fun and easy science experiments to try out with your grandkids! This will foster learning for your little ones while having a great time!
And there you have it – some fun activities for grandkids and grandparents to enjoy together!
