Although two weeks ago, most assisted living and nursing homes in New York were allowed to resume limited visitations, they still come along with some very difficult choices within our community. When a loved needs additional care, families are faced with making the choice of placing them in a facility, knowing that there are currently drawbacks. Those drawbacks include: restrictions on visitation, risks of exposure as a result of the pandemic, and a risk of prohibited visitation if there is a resurgence of the COVID virus.
There may not be a choice to delay placement in a skilled nursing facility, or the need for a rehabilitation stay after discharge from the hospital. However, for some, there may be options to arrange for some of the care that is needed at home.
